The Interactive RadioEpidemiological Program (IREP) was developed as part of the effort to update the 1985 Radioepidemiological Tables report. The 1985 report was mandated by the 1983 "Orphan Drug Act" (PL 97-414) which instructs to "devise and publish radioepidemiological tables that estimate the likelihood that persons who have or have had any of the radiation-related cancers and who have received specific doses prior to the onset of such disease developed cancer as a result of these doses."
IREP contains a collection of risk coefficients for cancer incidence obtained mainly from the Japanese A-bomb survivors study, but also from other epidemiological studies. The risk coefficients are adjusted for random and systematic errors in the A-bomb survivors dosimetry, and they are adapted for the U.S. population. Appropriate adjustments of the coefficients are made for low dose and low dose-rate exposure situations. The uncertainties in every component are fully expressed and propagated.
Get Started »IREP is based upon the Report of the NCI-CDC Working Group to Revise the 1985 NIH Radioepidemiological Tables, 2003 (PDF).
IREP Version 5.7.2 was released in February 2024. Please refer to the upgrade history for the modifications included in various versions of the code.
A separately maintained version of IREP developed for NIOSH is also available.
